Tyros

Tyros is a beautiful seaside settlement of South Kynouria. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It was the harbor leading from the Laconian hinterland to the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Ano (Upper) Tyros, built amphitheatrically on a hillside with magnificent sea view, retains local architectural elements.

At Elliniko Tyrou (Tserfos) are the ruins of an ancient fort - a guardianship used by the Spartans. Tyros is one of the villages of Tsakonia, and the locals still speak the Tsakonian dialect that has derived from the Dorian dialect.

The traditional settlement is built on the slopes of mount Parnon. Tyros Beach has been developed in recent years and has evolved into a remarkable summer resort. The settlement is spread in a green area, along a small bay and next to a large and beautiful beach.
