Prasies or Vrasies

Prassies or Vrassies was a pre-Dorian city located in today's Plaka, Leonidion. The city participated in the coalition (amphiktionia) of the Sanctuary of Neptune on Calabria of Poros.

Pausanias says that Dionysus, son of Zeus, and his dead mother Semeli, daughter of Kadmos, were washed out in Prassies. The locals handed Dionysus to Ino. She brought him up. Today there is the «Cave of Dionysus» in the northeast of the Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos Syntza (or Sykia, in Tsakonika, wich means «fig tree»). The plain of Leonidion to this day bears the name «Garden of Dionysus».
