Kastro

South of the beach of Tyros, rises the hill of Kastro (Castle). At the top of the hill, remain the relics of an ancient fortified settlement. The ruins are identified as the ancient town of Tyros, mentioned by Stefanos Byzantium. Renounced archaeologist C. Romeos confirmed the hypothesis that the name of the ancient settlement is preserved in the present village. Pottery and flint have been found on the hill. In the castle part of the fortification is saved, as well as 4 square towers and a semicircular. In the 1970s beneath the hill, in the courtyard of the Church of the Metamorphosis, remains of a building were found, probably dated in Roman times.
