South Kynouria combines mountain and sea and definitely allows us to go on a trip in order to change mood. The trip we have prepared and proposed until your next day out is Leonidio-Elona Monastery – Kosmas. Setting off from the capital of tsakonia, you will feel the energy given by the impressive red rock, situated over the town.
Park your car in the nearby road , close to Fabrica of Culture, and stroll among the mansions of the area. Greek coffee and traditional dishes is a must, before walking around Tsikaliotis Tower, church of Panagia, Agia Aikaterini, Agia Kyriaki, Panagia Xatzaliou, church of Taxiarches.Traditional element in Leonidio is the market in the center and beautiful mansions all over the area, with great garden doors with the characteristic colours.
Before leaving do not miss visiting Fabrica. Leaving from Leonidio , there is a german emplacement , where you can admire the sea and take photos of the three mills on the edge of the cliff.Next stop Elonas Monastery, a miracle inside nature!!!The distance to Leonidio from Elona is 17km and about 25minutes!!Daphnias river – Selinountas in ancient times-forms steep and wild gorges.Reaching the arched entrance and climbing the wild steps, crossing the little alley and then to the second gate, you can find the three-storey building.
You will find Agioi Pantes chapel and Monks Refuge. Inside the monastery you can worship the icon of Panagia Vrefokratoussa, enjoying the view and the peace of the area. Our road trip is not over before reaching the traditional settlement of Kosmas, with the amazing scenery, water springs and green forest.Crossing the southeastern slopes of Parnonas for 14km, through amazing scenery, bridges, huge rocks, rich vegetation at an elevation of 1150m, with the temperature declining, in the middle of a breathtaking location, you will find Kosmas!!!
On the way you will have the chance to take photos , as the one of the red abandoned van in the green forest. To the balcony of Parnonas, as the village is characterized, you will find the prevalent church of Agioi Anargiroi, the building of the school, the local library along with the central square with the giant sycamore, the traditional churches, the monuments and the Folk Museum. If a day is not enough, you can stay in a traditional guest house in the village and your trip will be full of images and experiences. If you have time , you can follow one of the four paths , starting from Kosmas.
